Black streaks on gutters, also known as “tiger stripes” or “zebra stripes”, are the result of a process called molecular bonding. Basically the aluminum in the gutter is ionized so that the paint sticks to the aluminum. However, this process also causes the asphalt in roof shingles to bond to the outsides of the gutters. Therefore the only solution is a service called Gutter Brightening.
Gutter Brightening is available as an add-on ONLY to a house washing service. Treatment is applied to the gutters by hand which is allowed to soak in before rinsing off. The reason that gutter brightening can’t be done by itself is the house would be covered in dark streaks from the water running down the siding otherwise.
