For homes that need to have the gutters cleaned out multiple times per year due to large and/or excessive trees, the gutter cleaning costs can start to add up. Luckily gutter guards are an option to help reduce gutter maintenance costs while also avoiding damages to the home and gutter system.

AFFORDABILITY

When comparing prices with Leaf Filter, Leaf Guard, or Gutter Helmet, perforated aluminum gutter covers are an easy choice.

DURABILITY

Manufactured with 100% heavy duty aluminum, perforated aluminum gutter guards are rust proof and built to last a long time.

EFFICIENCY

The Alu-Rex gutter guards that we use feature the perfect sized holes to drain efficiently while still preventing debris from entering the gutter.

PREVENTS DOWNSPOUT CLOGS

Our perforated aluminum gutter guards prevent leaf and other tree debris from entering the gutter system. Since no debris are able to enter the gutter system, obstructions in the downspouts are not able to accumulate to form clogs.

LOWER GUTTER MAINTENANCE COSTS

When the gutters need to be cleaned out multiple times per year the maintenance service costs can start to get expensive. Especially if you aren’t able to clean the gutters yourself. Gutter guards are often the perfect solution to cut down on yearly maintenance costs.

AVOIDS UNNECCESSARY REPAIRS

By preventing clogs to form in the gutter system, unnecessary home repairs such fascia board or soffit damages are avoided. Since the gutters are not able to clog, the gutters are not able to fill up with water and pull away from the home to cause damages.

HELPS SEALANTS LAST LONGER

Constant exposure to UV rays from the sun leads to gutter sealants drying out and failing over time. Gutter covers act as UV protection for the gutter sealants which helps them last long.

PREVENTS PEST INFESTATIONS

Unfortunately not all gutter guards are created equal. Common pests like birds, squirrels, and bees are able to get through a lot of types of gutter covers to build nests underneath. The good news is that perforated aluminum gutter covers are 100% effective against birds, squirrels, and bees.

PAY FOR THEMSELVES OVERTIME

For homes that require multiple gutter cleaning services per year, gutter guards often pay for themselves within a few years.

PEACE OF MIND

If you’ve ever had to deal with damages to the home caused by clogged gutters, gutter guards are a great way put those days behind you.

GUTTER GUARD INSTALLATION F.A.Q.’S

Why do we suggest perforated aluminum gutter guards?

WHY WE SUGGEST PERFORATED ALUMINUM GUTTER COVERS

The many different styles of leaf protection systems can be quite confusing for a home owner researching for the first time. The good news is that My Gutter Doctor has tested every style of gutter guard on the market.  Over time we have ruled out any style that are problematic, non-effective, or counter-productive. Through this trial and error process we were able to narrow it down to one style of product that we can stand behind. And that is the Perforated Aluminum Gutter Cover.

We suggest and use Perforated Aluminum Gutter Covers for 99% of jobs. There are only a few situations where perforated style would not be beneficial, such as very steep roof pitches or excessive shingle overhang.

As previously mentioned, perforated aluminum gutter covers are the style that we use and recommend for almost all situations.  And the simplest way to explain why, is that they perform the best in every way.

NO TAMPERING WITH ROOF SHINGLES

Does not go under the roof shingles or tamper with the roof shingles in any way. Perforated covers mount onto the top of the gutter with screws.

MOST DEBRIS IS ABLE TO BLOW OR WASH OFF

Some debris will settle on the covers until the wind is able to blow it off. Also a strong rainstorm can help wash off the covers.

COMPATABLE WITH MOST GUTTER HANGERS/BRACKETS

Compatible with just about every style of gutter bracket or hanger on the market, with the exception of roof straps. (Roof straps are used to hang gutters from metal roofs, or when there are no fascia boards.)

NOT NOTICABLE FROM THE GROUND

Perforated aluminum covers are practically invisible from the ground, especially on taller buildings.

EASYILY REMOVED AND/OR RE-INSTALLAED

Easily removed and reinstalled if you decide to get new gutters (that are the same size) down the road.

What are gutter guards?

Gutter guards (aka gutter screens, covers, helmets, etc..) are basically covers or lids that are installed to the tops of gutters to close off the system. These systems are designed to keep leaves and other debris out of the gutter system, while still allowing water to flow into the gutters. By keeping the gutters free and clear of debris the water will always be able to drain properly, which avoids costly home repairs.

Are the gutter guards we offer maintenance free?

One common misconception homeowners have is that once they install gutter guards they can forget about their gutters and roof altogether. Unfortunately that is not the case. You will still need to keep an eye on the debris that accumulates on the gutter guards or along the roofing eave.   The covers are designed so that wind and water clear are able to clear the covers. However, there may be problem areas where wind doesn’t get to like corners that some debris may pile up. Unfortunately there are no gutter covers on the market that are 100% maintenance free.

Do we need to schedule a separate gutter cleaning service before installing gutter covers?

No, the price of the gutter cleaning service is included in the installation cost.

We clean all debris from all gutters and downspout systems before installing any style of gutter guards/gutter covers to the gutters.  That way we know nothing is inside the system before we seal it up. This ensures that a clog will never accumulate in the downspouts again.

Will gutter guard installation save me money?

The best way to determine if you will save money with gutter guard installation, is to factor up your yearly cost of gutter cleaning services.

For example, let’s say your home requires two gutter cleaning services at $150 each per year. That means you spend roughly $300 per year on gutter cleanings. Now if Gutter Guard Installation for the same home cost $1,500, then that means the gutter guards would take about 5 years to pay for themselves. ($300 x 5 = $1,500)

A good goal is for gutter guards to pay for themselves in 5 years.  Anything less than 5 years would make it a great investment.  On the other hand if it were to take 10 years or more, we would say that probably isn’t a good investment.

Are return visits to remove debris from the gutter covers included?

No. Gutter guard installation does not include any type of return service to remove debris that may accumulate on the covers over time.  We do however offer gutter cover cleaning services that are cheaper than a standard gutter cleaning.

Are perforated gutter guards effective against pine needles?

Minimal amounts of pine needles are able to get through the small holes of perforated aluminum gutter covers.  However, as long as the gutters are pitched properly the pine needles will automatically flush out the next time it rains.

For homes with excessive pine needles we suggest the Double-Pro by Alu-Rex . The double layer gutter screen prevents pine needles from entering the gutter system. In fact, they offer a LIFETIME warranty against clogs caused by pine needles and/or leaf debris.

Are perforated gutter covers effective during heavy downpours?

One downside to most gutter covers is that during heavy rains some water tends to glide over the gutters instead of going in.

During heavy rains and torrential downpours no style of gutter cover is going to efficiently handle all of the rain.  Especially on homes with metal roofs, composite roofs, mansard roofs, or just steeply pitched roofs in general.  The problem is the water gets too much speed coming down the roof that it keeps the momentum going once it reaches the covers.  Problem areas such as inside corners may require splash guards to prevent water from running over the gutter covers.

We have specifically sourced out the brands that feature the biggest sized holes. That way they are able to handle the most amounts of water during heavy rains.

Does My Gutter Doctor suggest gutter guards?

There are several instances we suggest gutter guards, such as:

  • When gutter guards are able to save you money on gutter cleaning services.
  • Homes that have excessive trees nearby (wooded lot) and/or branches hanging directly over the roof.
  • Problematic gutters that clog frequently and/or easily.
  • Vacation homes, vacant homes, or rental properties where nobody is home often enough to keep an eye on the gutters.
