Continuous Gutter Hangers: The Next Evolution of Gutter Installation
Traditional gutter systems are installed using individual hangers spaced along the fascia, leaving unsupported sections between each attachment point. Continuous hanger technology takes a different approach by reinforcing the gutter along its entire length, creating a stronger, more stable system without the weak points found between traditional hangers.
As Maryland’s regional Alu-Rex Master Installer, My Gutter Doctor installs Alu-Rex continuous hanger systems designed to combine structural reinforcement, gutter protection, and long-term performance into one complete gutter system — setting a new standard for gutter strength and stability.

The Evolution of Gutter Installation
The way gutters are attached to a home has evolved significantly over the years. From traditional spikes and ferrules, to modern screw-in hidden hangers, each generation has improved how gutters are secured and supported.
Today, continuous gutter hangers represent the next evolution in gutter installation, replacing individual support points with continuous reinforcement that spreads support and weight across the entire gutter.

From Gutter Spikes to Continuous Support
Gutter Spikes & Ferrules
For decades, gutters were commonly secured by driving long gutter spikes through the face of the gutter and into the fascia. Over time, repeated movement and stress can cause these spikes to loosen and begin pulling away from the home, allowing the gutter to sag or shift out of position.
Hidden Gutter Hangers
Screw-in hidden hangers were a major improvement. They provide stronger attachment to the fascia, eliminate visible fasteners through the face of the gutter, and remain the standard installation method for many gutter systems today. However, the gutter is still supported only at the location of each individual hanger, leaving sections between them less supported.
Continuous Gutter Hangers
Continuous hangers take the next step by replacing spaced support points with reinforcement across the entire gutter. Instead of relying on individual brackets to carry the load, weight and stress are distributed across the system — providing greater strength, stability, and support.

Why Traditional Gutter Fasteners Fail Over Time
Every gutter system is exposed to years of changing temperatures, heavy rain, snow and ice, wind, and movement from the building itself. Because aluminum naturally expands and contracts as temperatures change, the gutter and its attachment system are constantly experiencing small amounts of movement.
With spike and ferrule systems, that repeated movement can gradually loosen the spikes from the fascia. Once the spikes begin backing out, the gutter can pull away from the home, sag, or lose its proper slope.
Hidden hangers improved this considerably by replacing nails with screws and creating stronger attachment points. But the gutter is still supported at intervals, meaning the aluminum between each hanger must span the distance from one support point to the next.
The Problem With Spaced Support
A properly installed gutter should maintain a straight, consistent line along the fascia. With individual hangers, each attachment becomes a fixed support point along that line. Over years of expansion, contraction, freeze-thaw cycles, and changing loads, the sections between those support points can gradually move, flex, or distort.
Continuous gutter hangers approach the problem differently. Instead of strengthening individual points along the gutter, they reinforce the entire line — helping the gutter maintain its shape, position, and proper slope over time.

Built for Long-Term Gutter Stability
Strength isn’t the only advantage of continuous support. Gutters are designed to maintain a straight, consistent line along the fascia, but aluminum naturally expands and contracts as temperatures change.
With traditional spaced hangers, the gutter is secured at individual points. Over years of seasonal temperature changes and freeze-thaw cycles, movement between these support points can contribute to sagging, twisting, and distortion. Continuous gutter hangers distribute support across the entire system, helping the gutter maintain a straighter, more uniform shape and proper slope over time.
Alu-Rex backs this long-term performance with a Lifetime Sturdiness Warranty, guaranteeing that the gutters remain firmly secured and maintain their proper slope for the warranty period.
• Even Weight Distribution
Spreads loads across the gutter instead of concentrating stress at individual hanger points.
• Snow & Ice Loads
Provides greater structural support against the additional weight of winter weather.
• Roof Snow Slides
Added reinforcement helps gutters withstand sudden loads from snow and ice sliding from steep or metal roofs.
• Long-Term Stability
Helps maintain the gutter’s shape, position, and proper slope over time.
More Than Just Structural Reinforcement
Alu-Rex continuous hanger systems also provide built-in gutter protection. Their covered design helps keep leaves and debris out, shields gutter sealants from direct UV exposure, and allows rainwater to drain freely. Combining structural reinforcement and debris protection into one complete system.

Alu-Rex Continuous Hanger Systems
Alu-Rex offers two continuous hanger systems designed for different levels of gutter protection and performance. Both T-Rex® and Double-Pro™ provide continuous structural reinforcement, built-in debris protection, and a Lifetime Sturdiness Warranty. Double-Pro™ takes the system a step further with greater load capacity and advanced dual-layer microfiltration for pine needles and finer debris.
Double-Pro™ — Maximum Protection & Performance
Adds greater structural capacity and Eclipse™ dual-layer microfiltration for enhanced protection against pine needles and fine debris. Double-Pro™ supports loads of up to 425 lbs. per linear foot and includes a Lifetime Clog-Free Warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
A continuous gutter hanger reinforces the gutter along its entire length rather than supporting it at individual points. This distributes weight more evenly across the gutter and eliminates the unsupported sections found between traditional spaced hangers.
Yes. Standard gutter hangers typically support around 50–100 lbs. per linear foot, with that support concentrated at individual attachment points. Continuous hangers distribute support and weight across the entire gutter. Alu-Rex T-Rex® systems support loads up to 250 lbs. per linear foot, while Double-Pro™ systems support up to 425 lbs. per linear foot.
Yes. Alu-Rex is a Canadian manufacturer, and its continuous hanger systems are designed with harsh Canadian winters in mind. Continuous reinforcement helps distribute heavy snow and ice loads across the gutter rather than concentrating stress around individual hangers. This added strength is especially valuable in winter climates and on homes where snow and ice may slide from the roof.
Traditional hangers support gutters at individual points, leaving sections between each hanger more vulnerable to movement and sagging. Continuous hangers spread support across the entire gutter, eliminating these unsupported gaps and helping the gutter maintain its shape, position, and proper slope over time.
Yes. Alu-Rex continuous hangers are designed to provide both structural reinforcement and gutter protection. The system strengthens the gutter while the perforated surface helps keep leaves and debris out. T-Rex® provides protection from leaves and larger debris, while Double-Pro™ adds dual-layer microfiltration for greater protection against pine needles and finer debris.
Both systems provide continuous structural reinforcement and built-in gutter protection. Double-Pro™ offers greater load capacity and adds Eclipse™ dual-layer microfiltration and Vortex™ waterflow technology for enhanced drainage and protection against pine needles and fine debris.
